Our History
The EPS Group continues to expand
The EPS Group’s history dates back to 1991, when it began as a software development company. Since then, we have steadily expanded our business from CRO, SMO, to CSO, and we are developing various businesses in China and the Asia-Pacific. This section highlights and traces the changes in the EPS Group.
EPS Tokyo Inc. was started with three employees, focusing on the development of “systems to manage treatment allocation and trial progress” and “GCP management systems” to manage clinical trials scientifically and ethically.
We were contracted to develop a support system for two large-scale clinical trials (the “MEGA Study” and the “ATHEROMA Study”) as part of the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s drug epidemiology research. In addition, data center operations have begun for both studies.
1999
We started operations in Shanghai as the first full-fledged contract research organization (CRO) in China.
We started our SMO business to support clinical trial-related operations of medical institutions. Since then, through several mergers, the EPS Group’s SMO business has grown to hold the No. 1 market share in the industry.
2001
We became the first CRO to go public.
EPS Corporation listed on JASDAQ.
EPS Corporation listed on the 1st section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Started Pharmaceutical products sales business in China.
Transferred to a holding company system and changed the company name to EPS Holdings, Inc.
A new three-year medium-term management plan, “Shinyo,” has been launched.

An overview of the EPS Group and its structure
Led by EPS Holdings, Inc., the EPS Group provides and creates high value-added services in each of its areas of business.The EPS Group offers more than 50 types of services in the specialized areas of pharmaceuticals, medical care, and healthcare, and it works with many partners to create new value. In 2015, the Group became a holding company. In addition to three core businesses — CRO, SMO, and CSO businesses, the Group has a health and lifestyle business that provides services to support drug discovery in Japan and China and a new prospects business that does pharmaceutical business in China.
In 2023, EPNextS Co., Ltd. was established to oversee our 3 core businesses in order to improve the quality and efficiency of the services provided and to devise and offer new solutions. We will continue to strive to maximize the Group’s strengths.
